Ryan Trupp Photography | The Blog bio picture

A little bit about me: in list form

I was born in Nebraska and yes we had indoor plumbing
I’ve lived in Colorado, Iowa, Chicago, Ohio, Cape Cod, Manhattan, & Queens
I am both a city boy and a nature boy
I recently married the love of my life
We got married in a barn…no really!
If I’m on the computer I probably have my dog, Ruby, in my lap
I have a strong theatre design background and love all things visual
I have a rusty old bike from 1976 and riding it makes me happy

That’s me in 8 lines or less.  Photography has been a great way for me to meet some truly amazing people. I have a lot of fun with what I do and with the people I meet. Everyone has a different story to tell which makes every day an adventure.

It's my goal to make my clients feel as comfortable as possible and to make their time, be it a wedding day, headshots, or a theatrical event, as stress free as I can...and capture beautiful pictures along the way.

I carry both equipment and liability insurance and am a proud member of Professional Photographers of America and Pictage.

Natalie & Eric’s Engagement Session

While I was putting together my updated blog layout, I started going through some older engagement sessions.  This was an engagement session with two very good friends of mine, Natalie and Eric.  Did they ask me for a session or did I talk them into it?  I don’t remember, but we had a great time anyway!  They are getting married this July in Pennsylvania and have asked me to be in the wedding party!  I can’t wait!

We decided to take pictures in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn to get the NY skyline in the background.  Eric is a published photographer himself and does some amazing work with pinhole and Polaroid cameras so you will notice I photographed some black and white film shots with my Holga for the occasion.

Production Photos

I have been working with Jim Youmans on his scenery design for the revival of West Side Story which opens on Broadway  at the Palace Theatre February 23.  I was thrilled to be asked to photograph production photos for him.  The show is beautiful and it was so exciting to see on stage.  The story is just as relevant as it always has been and I think this is a perfect time for it to be brought back to Broadway.

This process was especially exciting for me as I was brought in to help with the drafting for the shop as well as doing a lot of work on the scale model.  Seeing it full size on stage was a little bit disorienting for me as it didn’t look any different from the model, except the people on stage were now real size and moving around on their own!

Thanks as always to Ashley for helping me juggle lenses.  If it weren’t for her, I would have spent my time fumbling around in the dark missing the whole show!

Engaged!

I’m am excited to announce that I asked Ashley Delegal to marry me…and she said yes!

We had planned on going to Central park for the day just to walk around and try out my new camera lens (a macro which I had purchaced for the sole purpose of photographing her ring).  We made it to Belvedere Castle, which is a beautiful place in the center of the park.   I recommended we rest for a bit and have some hot chocolate which I had so conveniently brought along.  I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me!  She totally wasn’t expecting it!

So, after being the photographer for weddings, it looks like I’m going to be on the other side of the lens for once!  I’ve been joking that I’m just going to bring my tripod and a remote for my camera for our wedding pictures.  I don’t think she’s going to let me.  Oh well.  Probably not a good idea anyway!

Thank you to everyone for your love and support!  We both are so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends.

Virginia and Izee’s Wedding

Ashley and I were invited to a wedding for Virginia and Izee which is one of her co-workers at the Public Theatre. Although I wasn’t hired as the photographer, I couldn’t resist taking my camera! The ceremony and reception was held at Giando on the Water in Brooklyn. It was a beautiful space with nice big windows overlooking the Manhattan skyline and the Williamsburg Bridge. It was nice to simply relax and for once just be a guest at a wedding. Congratulations to Virginia and Izee!
