A little bit about me: in list form

I was born in Nebraska and yes we had indoor plumbing
I’ve lived in Colorado, Iowa, Chicago, Ohio, Cape Cod, Manhattan, & Queens
I am both a city boy and a nature boy
I recently married the love of my life
We got married in a barn…no really!
If I’m on the computer I probably have my dog, Ruby, in my lap
I have a strong theatre design background and love all things visual
I have a rusty old bike from 1976 and riding it makes me happy

That’s me in 8 lines or less.  Photography has been a great way for me to meet some truly amazing people. I have a lot of fun with what I do and with the people I meet. Everyone has a different story to tell which makes every day an adventure.

It's my goal to make my clients feel as comfortable as possible and to make their time, be it a wedding day, headshots, or a theatrical event, as stress free as I can...and capture beautiful pictures along the way.

I carry both equipment and liability insurance and am a proud member of Professional Photographers of America and Pictage.

As seen in the Times!

A couple who contacted me to photograph their engagement session was listed in today’s New York Times!  Rian and Russell had contacted me back in January about shooting an engagement session in Central Park and had submitted a picture from that session to the Weddings and Celebrations section and it was published today.  You can see the announcement here:  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/22/fashion/weddings/22Balfour.html?_r=1&ref=weddings

I just got back today from photographing their wedding in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  It was a beautiful wedding and I’ll be sharing pictures soon.

Congratulations Rian and Russell!

Ryan visits the Bahamas

As many of you know, as well as being a photographer, I’m also a freelance theatrical and event designer.  The project I’m currently working on required that I spend a week at the Atlantis in the Bahamas for meetings and site surveys.  This was an amazing resort in one of the earth’s most beautiful areas.

I was sent there for work and I know what you are thinking, but it actually is a bit difficult to get any work done when everyone around you is on vacation!  I snapped as many pictures that I could along the way between meetings and thought I would share.

Enjoy.  Think spring New York!

Snow Day!

We woke up this morning to a blanket of whiteness!  Central Park got between 7″ – 8″ of snow and NYC schools were canceled for the first time in 5 years apparently.   Because of this and the fact that we’ve been putting in some long hours lately, the studio declared this a snow day!  Of course, snow day for most people means lighting a fire and staying warm inside all day, but because I’m a glutton for punishment I grabbed my gloves and camera and headed to Central Park.  It was beautiful if you don’t mind the frost bite!

It was wonderfully peaceful in the park.  It was just me, the snow, and the ducks surrounded by the quiet buildings of 8 million New Yorkers.
