Erin & Bala Wedding

It’s Friday so I thought I would start your weekend with a profound statement: Weddings are like snowflakes, no two are alike.  Because of this, my life as a wedding photographer never gets old or boring.  Every wedding experience is just as exciting as the next because this world is full of unique, one-of-a-kind couples having unique one-of-a-kind weddings.  Take Erin and Bala.  They had a beautiful, wonderful wedding at the Court House downtown.  But instead of the typical honeymoon following the wedding like everyone else, these two are about to embark on a move to a castle in Budapest!  I’m totally jealous.  I can only hope, Erin and Bala, that you will keep in touch and send us pictures of your new diggs so we can live vicariously through you…in a castle!

This was our first time photographing a Court House wedding and hopefully it won’t be our last.  If you’ve never attended a wedding at the Court House in NYC you are missing out on a very unique experience.  Erin and Bala waited in line for a number and we all waited and watched the monitors for it to come up.  They did the paperwork at one of the many teller windows and then we were all allowed into one of the Chapels.  The officiant who spoke was very nice and gave a brief but memorable ceremony.  After the “I Do’s” and the kiss we were on our way.  I was struck by how smoothly everything ran while, at the same time, the experience felt just as personal and meaningful as any other wedding we’ve photographed.  I usually tell my couples it doesn’t matter where we shoot, the background never matters as much as the two people in front of that background.  That idea never felt so true as it did in that Court House and I feel so blessed to have been asked to be a part of that day.

After the wedding, we walked part of the way across the Brooklyn Bridge for pictures and then hopped a cab to the reception at Devi on East 18th Street.  Bala’s family was here from India and we had a great time getting to know both Erin and Bala’s friends and family at the reception.

Congratulations again Erin and Bala!  I think we managed to get some great pictures for you to put up in your castle to help you remember your New York wedding!
